"God is still in charge, and He never looks back and says, Oops!" he said as he clutched the hand of a sorrowful young lady. A man that once towered over her now reclined in a comfy chair. He was beginning to look jaundiced and also weary from the influx of visitors. Earlier that day, he had received his final dialysis treatment to treat the kidney failure that attempted to control his body as well as the recently diagnosed liver cancer caused by agent orange. He was resting easy, all considering. He spoke of times at church, church members, encouragement cards written by young children, and then he spoke from his heart.
"I'm not afraid to die. (because I know where I'm going) My biggest regret is that I will not see my grandchildren grow up and the families they will have. I hope I have done them justice as a father. I believe I have done what I was called to do," he said between tired breaths. "I believe that we all have angels, and I have seen mine. Y'all saw that I Love America program a few years back, right? When I was fighting in Vietnam, I was given a certain assignment via helicopter. Before the mission began, a young man came to me and asked to take my seat on the flight in order to take care of an urgent matter. I agreed. That mission turned tragic and every crew member was killed in the explosion. Following the incident, I attempted to acquire contact information for this young man's family. I searched and searched. I asked around...This man was never recorded as being on the mission...or in the military anywhere. I couldn't believe it. He came to me as an authentic army officer. He never existed. I believe that I was entertaining an angel. I have stepped on booby traps, uncovered wires just enough to see what I was walking into. I know that God is good."
As the time drew near for the family to leave, the young lady asked if she could sing for him. She knew this would be her final time to visit with the man that had greeted her every Sunday from the time she was five years old, the man who would always say that he was better after a big hug and a kiss on the cheek. Fighting tears and trembling voice, she held his hand and sang Amazing Grace. He relaxed as much as he could. After a few farewell hugs, with a heavy heart, Amiee left Mr. Phil Williams to rest. He was a general in the army who has seen more than many can imagine and also tried his hand at becoming Alabama's governor, but most importantly, he is the kind usher at church who welcomes hugs and kisses or fist bumps from young children on any given Sunday morning. You never know when you are with angels, unaware.

My life for the past several months has looked/happened like a whirlwind. It is December 15? What? The challenge for this year is almost over? (Notice I said the challenge for THIS year. Be on the lookout for the Brasswell/Bosart challenge for 2013. We are still hashing out the details.) I realized that tomorrow marks a year since we decided to tackle this bear. Expectation
I know. It has been a long time since I last posted, and from the title of this post, this is not a Challenge post. Please know that I have not given up on the challenge, life has just been a little busy (hold the little) and I am behind on my picture taking. I had planned to have my blog up to date over Thanksgiving, but a dreadful little bug hit me for about 48 hrs. Thank goodness for my own bed and family.
My mind is always busy, and lately, Little Claire Bear or Baby Girl has been occupying my thoughts. I can't wait to snuggle. I can't wait to buy her all of the accessories a little lady needs. I can't wait for that baby smell after she takes a bath. I can't wait to buy her bows and make her look like a precious present to everyone around her. I just can't wait. I am not even her Mama, and I am waiting with great expectation for her arrival.
Little does this precious baby know that her little life has been pointing me to the beauty found in the manger this season. The prophecies foretold of a Messiah. Everyone was waiting with GREAT expectation for the Savior. How much more anticipation built up because a precious little baby was on his way? I imagine Mary couldn't wait for Jesus to recognize her voice, coo and giggle, smell sweet, feel soft, and snuggle close to her. I don't fully know about wardrobe in those days, but I am sure if something baby size was available, Mary loved looking at it. It is incredible that he was the Savior of the world, capable of stepping straight out of heaven to complete his mission, but he chose to bless a young couple with great joy over the birth of a baby. He fanned the flame of expectation/anticipation by doing so. As I think about little Claire, and how excited I am that she is one her way, I am reminded that I should be beyond just excited for Jesus' birth to be celebrated. He is more than we can ever hope and dream. It's cliche, but we all say that our baby is perfect. Jesus is no cliche. He was the perfect baby.
Claire is coming. We are all giddy over this gift. Mamichka has a pink box full of Claire Bear treasures to prove it. Jesus was coming. I know Mary and several others were giddy over his arrival. Kings brought the finest treasure of gold, frankincense, and myrrh to prove it.
Just stop and think about this. Jesus became a baby. A baby. (I wonder if he had peach fuzz hair?) He was long awaited/expected. 9 months of anticipation culminated in the stable. I cannot wait for Christmas morning to hear the soft sounds of a sleeping baby, smell that familiar baby smell, and wrap my arms around my long awaited Savior.

The Feathered Friend Challenge

Little fact: My bathroom at home used to be decorated with a duck theme. When I say decorated, I mean EVERYTHING was duck. Birthdays, Christmases, or random occasions brought new ducks to my bathtub. It was quite a sight.

One Word...4 Syllables
Maturity...I love it. I hate it. The biggest issue I have and the fight I want to pick with maturity, is that I struggle with it. When does the growing process ever end? I've heard it from so many people. I've believed it myself, but sometimes the glittery glasses I like to wear get frosted over and I think I have reached my full potential. As I ponder that thought process, I laugh. It's SOOOOO not over. Just this past weekend, my glasses defrosted and I saw an area the Lord has been using to help mature me. You know that moment. It's the one where you are stopped in your tracks and a light switch is flipped. Yeah... The one where you feel embarrassed. The one where you experience grace. The one where you want to fix it immediately, but know you must wait. The one where you realize that maturity you thought you had was actually being cultivated instead. The one where you start singing "Thanks be to our God" because he is so faithful and good. That was my weekend. It was wonderful and revealing. I am so glad that I am not rejected by Jesus when I fall short. I am so glad he stops me and shows me where I need more of him. I am so glad that I am not done maturing.
Although, some of you may be questioning my maturity right now. I do wear a disney outfit every week, and I have been sitting in my room listening to Les Miserables almost in tears. (The new movie comes out in three months...You have to start preparing now!)
Sometimes it stinks. Other times it is fun. Know that a lesson in maturity is always lurking around the corner with its eyes peeled. Watch your backs, and sleep with one eye open. You don't want miss it.

The Cajun Challenge

If you are confused at this moment, it is understandable. I am not a character this week. I am a setting. I am Goin' down the Bayou from Princess and and the Frog. I saw this movie for the first time after taking the ACT. (Yes, that means I was in high school). My friend Katie and I had a blast, but we were left a little scarred from the voodoo scenes. It isn't my favorite story, but the scenery is beautiful. It was a perfect set up for my high school choir tour to New Orleans! Anyway...

10,000
In terms of pennies, 10,000 of them take up a lot of space. 10,000 children running around would be overwhelming, but you know I would love it! If we were talking about 10,000 breaths, we would be thankful for those releases of carbon dioxide. What about 10,000 reasons to praise Jesus? Do we live everyday with those reasons in the forefront of our minds?
Matt Redman wrote a beautiful song he entitled 10,000 Reasons (Bless the Lord). We sang it this past Sunday in church. Sunday was bittersweet because it was Brad and Erin's last Sunday to fellowship with our family at Christ Community. It was a great day of worship. We sang two songs I sang in their wedding, Holy God and Be Unto Your Name, and the benediction Dr. Padelford gave was the benediction he gave the first Sunday Erin visited CCC. (And it's one of our favorites--Jude 24-25) As we sang 10,000 Reasons, I wanted to cry because of God's goodness for allowing me to share the past two years with Brad and Erin at church. I was also overwhelmed by God's grace throughout the previous week. I didn't blubber during church, but my car shared that experience with me as I drove back to campus. :)
Earlier this month, my mom challenged me to make a list of what I know about God himself. I had yet to do it, but this morning was the morning. I was talking with my mom and we just started making it. I came up with a list of 21 reasons and I could've kept going. That's when 10,000 Reasons popped into my head. What if I made a list of those 10,000 reasons?
1 a day = 27.4 years
5 a day = 5.5 years
10 a day = 2.7 years
In Scripture, God tells us over and over how he loves us and why he loves us. How often I forget how I love HIM and why. Am I going to embark on writing 10,000 reasons of why my God is great? I think so. He writes how he loves me, why shouldn't I do it for him? I am 21 down with 9,979 to go. Challenge is officially accepted. This might be crazier than not buying clothes for a year, but who said anything I do is not a little crazy?

The REALLY Bad Dude Challenge
The name for this post comes from my dad. Whenever we watch a movie, cartoon/real people, he always refers to the villain as being a "Bad dude" or a "REALLY Bad Dude." Are you intrigued as to who I am? I will let you know that I planned all of the outfits for this month 7 months ago. What can I say? I got excited! July has an intentional theme, unlike last month, and I am SO excited to premiere these outfits. haha

The She Sings A Lot Challenge
At the beginning of June, I wore Flounder. The next week I wore King Triton. The next week I wore Sebastian. All of that was accidental. I did not mean to make it a Little Mermaid month, but I decided to keep it going since I had come so far. :)
